Surveyor Seals Reveal Secrets of Antarctic Depths

Surveyor Seals Reveal Secrets of Antarctic Depths

Do you believe that seals can reveal the secrets of the Antarctic depths. This article tells about what the seals have done and entered in the Antarctic ocean. Read and see for yourself and write what you think about the situation. Seals are helping to map the ocean floor around Antarctica. And they are proving their worth: they have already revealed new features on the sea bed that could help researchers explain the rapid melting of ice in recent years..... how dependable is this information

  1. This article is a very interesting one! Who would have ever thought that seals would be our own personal video/submarines? Seals go places no one else as ever gone and its revealed new research about the Antarctic Ocean that could ultimately change the ocean situation. The article said that "they have already revealed new features on the sea bed that could help researchers explain the rapid melting of ice in recent years." meaning they could help explain the rise in ocean water because other high tech equipment can't. Or, "But the most of the sea and ocean beds around Antarctica remain unmapped because the thick ice that covers much of the region is impassable for ships." The seals can cover and map the region because they go where ships can’t. In my opinion the seals are a great idea.

  2. It truly amazes me that we have just now thought to use sea creatures to explore the parts of oceans that we aren’t able to investigate. This is an interesting article and I think that the seals, or if researchers were to use other sea creature to put the sensors on, will be the key to finding the secrets that hide in the Arctic. It makes sense to use seals because we know they can go down to the bottom, because of studies, where we can’t and it’s not something that needs a battery or a controller. In my opinion this is dependable information because of earlier studies where marine biologists’ tracked well-mapped regions showed that seal dive to the sea floor thirty percent of the time. Because of this new method we are able to go deeper into the ocean than we ever have before. We are uncovering secrets and finding out just how deep the oceans are.

  3. This research is giving us more information on the sea depths that we haven’t been able to get to because of the thick ice that are impassable for ships to get to. But when I read further on I had questions about the accurateness of this study such as, speed and the paths to and from the bottom of the sea. Is there a calculation for how fast the seal is going to and from the bottom of the sea depths? What if the seal is swimming faster toward the bottom and then goes slower coming back up? Maybe they do have all of this under control and didn’t mention it in the article. That’s what arose in my mind when I read this article about the seals revealing new sea depths. Overall I agree that it is interesting how we can use animals as a tool to learn more about our Earth.

  4. I agree with purple muffins because, the seals go where us humans can't, beacuse like purple muffins said it is mainly covered in thick arctic ice. this way of doing this is helping us out alot because the seals spend 30 % on the ocean floor, this is method is very intelegent way to map the ocean floor. The seals hed electronic depth sensors glued to their head that measure the depth of the ocean and map it out. they had thoughts leading towards the Wilkins ice shelf were 600 metres deeper – 200 metres deeper than anyone thought recently. once again this is my opinion and everyone is entitled to there opinion.

  5. I personally do not believe that they can reveal all the secrets, but depth could be one. I mean the pressure going towards the bottom of the ocean rises, and it is very difficult to make it that deep without man made machinery. Alhtough scientists are creating machines that can make it deeper than before. This still leaves a whole lot of unknown depths though. I also believe that this information is not accurate, I mean he tested their movements, but only in a small area of the ocean. The ocean covers 75% of the world, that is a whole lot of seals you would need to attain accurate data.

  6. People see some sea creatures as nothing more than dumb animals that play in water all day. Yet, what they don't realize is that they are very intelligent and help scientists and researches out in their time of need. I believe seals helping scientists out is stupendous. There have been a lot of theories as to why the ice caps are melting. Seals are helping to find out the answer to that. This information could help save the ice caps, species living their, and ultimately help save the world. Who ever heard of a seal helping save the world? That's pretty darn cool. Seals are magnificent creatures that are helping mankind find the solutions to help preserve what is needed to help keep an ecosystem alive and helping discover new "worlds." I believe seals will ultimately become what we need to help solve world crisis.
