Extra Organs?

It is said that the appendix, wisdom teeth, vomeronasal organ, Darwin's point, and goose bumps are organs that humans have that are completely pointless and no longer needed on the human body. Is that necessarily true? If we didn't have those organs would it make us any less human? Would we be considered normal without the prescence of these specific organs? People may have an affinity for one of these organs and might feel "naked" without them. Do you personally have a preference? If so, why? What is so "special" about the organ(s) that make you want to keep them? Read the article at the link below to get more ideas.

  1. well in my theory i believe that it does not make you any less human because i know a couple people that got their apendix removed they are still human, they still have all the characteristics that make them human, theres some people that have had their limbs removed you don't qualify them as an alien do you. if you think it makes them different their might be something wrong with you, this is only my view of things.

  2. I agree 100% with nathanoj norec, just because you have an appendage removed or an organ of some sort removed doesn't make you an "alien" to those who still have those attached to them. I wouldn’t say that not having these extra organs would make you necessarily special. I say this because if we don't "need" these organs than you can't say you are special to not have them. Half the time we have these organs, like our wisdom teeth, willingly removed. That’s only my opinion though.

  3. As nathanoj norec said they believe it doesn't make you any less human. I also believe with that. The reason why is because I know people without things, like a gland that helps you stop when your sneezing. A women I know does not have one and she will keep sneezing. Last time we counted she sneezed at least 20 times in a row, but she is still human. She is no different then us. She still has all the main organs to live and be human. Also missing parts could be better for us at some times. Like the gallblader, if it starts acting up they take it out because we don't need it. All this about taking parts away or not having them is because its for a reason it could be that we don't need it or it could kill us.

  4. This is an interesting article that could create lots of discussion.
I do not think we should remove any of these “vestigial organs”. They are there for a reason.
I think that it is possible that these parts(organs) in our body were once used long ago. Maybe our ancesstors just evolved to where we no long need these body parts anymore. The Vomeronasal organ was a good example of this in the article.
Now goosebumps; I think it would be near impossible or silly to “remove” goosebumps. Since every little hair in our body has a tiny muscle that contracts the hair to stand up, I think it would be a mistake to take aways every little mucle around our hiar.
Taking the tail bone out would also be a huge problem in my opinion. I think that it would be useless to take it out and also painfull. Without an anchor point for the muscle to hold onto I think that the anus wouldn’t be able to have a place to "grow”. I think if everybody where to get their tail bones removed we would have a “flat butt” society.
Does it make you less human? No, I personally say not. A human is more than what your physically made of. A human has thoughts, dreams, tasks and more importantly has a personality.
